Tamsen,

"Jaws" was certainly THE scary film of our generation (our "Psycho") though as my wife has pointed out, as more and more time goes by, and CGI grows more sophisticated, the shark starts to look more and more like a big piece of rubber.

As for "The Changeling," an underrated Can. movie shot, in part, right here in Ottawa, I think DePlama's "Carrie" easily usurps it as the best late 70s pure horror flick.
