» TamsenTillson - Traumatized by Jaws

I would like to nominate Jaws as THE scariest movie of all time; scary in a real-world sense.

To this day, whenever I go swimming I have to quell the fear that a shark is going to get me.

And I'm talking about a freshwater lake in Canada.

I don't think I'm alone here. I remember someone telling me they were frightened of the bath after seeing Jaws.

While I'm at it, I'd like to nominate The Changeling with George C. Scott as another of the scariest ghost classics of all time. (A Canadian film, btw...)

Tamsen,

"Jaws" was certainly THE scary film of our generation (our "Psycho") though as my wife has pointed out, as more and more time goes by, and CGI grows more sophisticated, the shark starts to look more and more like a big piece of rubber.

As for "The Changeling," an underrated Can. movie shot, in part, right here in Ottawa, I think DePlama's "Carrie" easily usurps it as the best late 70s pure horror flick.
